Something new to you & me!

We have a big window in our bedroom and we had been considering of installing a roller shutter. By installing the roller shutter, it will help:
i) increasing the home's security
ii) reduce heat transfer in and out
iii) block out noise and light

Since yesterday I was not working, I thought of getting someone to quote me on that. I just submitted the web-form "request for quote" from their website and someone will buzzing me later on. In the late afternoon, I finally received a call from one of them, asking me whether I'm available in the evening.

At about 4.30pm, the guy arrived and I thought he will be measuring the window and straightaway provided me the quote. Who knows? He wanted to present his company's' roller shutter before quoting. Luckily, my husband was around to 'entertain' him. Guess what? He is advertiser manager- main purpose is to hang his company banner at our backyard (because our backyard is facing main road) and of course,to have this business work (only he was allowed to hang that). At first, the price were so unreasonable (my face impression showed all and he realized it), wanting me to wait for another quotation!

Both of us could see that he's really making hard to wanting to have this business working - attempted to call his manager but his manager couldn't work out the price we offered. They then offered a new price and we decided to lock his price (on the spot, we called our friend seeking for second opinion)

Perhaps some of you might not know what's a roller shutter? The picture below tells all....

Green Tea Ice Cream

In Malaysia, I never thought of making own ice cream because they are really cheap. The cheapest one I could get it was RM1/pac from the groceries shop (that was really a long time ago). [My grandma, sis and I used to walk to the groceries shop, mainly was to get some ice cream. My grandma is a vanilla/corn ice-cream lover. Unbelievable right?]

I myself prefer green tea flavor (but not my  hubby, will make him choc ice cream next time), that was after my visit to Japan in 200X. You hardly find any green tea  ice cream in  the supermarket. Today, I finally made my own green tea ice cream and it's absolutely super duper easy [without using ice cream maker]

Ingredient:
2 tablespoons of green tea powder
2/3 cup granulated sugar
3 egg yolks
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup heavy (thickened) cream

Steps:
1. Mix the green tea powder with 2 tablespoons granulated sugar in a bowl
2. Mix the egg yolks and remaining sugar in a separate bowl.
3. Gently heat the milk on pan (not to let it boil). Remove the milk from the heat and mix a few spoonfuls of the warm milk with the green tea powder and sugar in a small bowl. When you have a smooth paste, add it to the remaining milk in the pan, then gradually combine with the egg yolk mixture.
4. Return mixture to the stove and heat slowly over low heat (not let the mixture boil). Remove from the heat and allow to cool completely.
5. Lightly whip the cream and then add it to the cold green tea-milk mixture.
6. Transfer the mixture to a large container and then put it in the freezer. As ice crystals start to form, remove and mix well with a spoon (use a spoon to stir vigorously) to break them up and return the mixture to the freezer. Repeat this a few times as it freezes to ensure that the ice cream is smooth.

Note:
a. 2/3 cup of sugar seem a little sweet to me.
b. This recipe was adapted from Spoonful Blog.

Green tea powder from Busan- Too much expensive!
The color of the powder seem much much lighter
[AUD7.69 for just 40g]

That's my masterpiece.....

I hope you'll like it....
Cheers..

It happened long long time ago...

Yesterday when I was lying on bed , I thought of my childhood and only certain part of the memory 'lives'. While I'm able to reckon some, I would like to mark them down:

1) I'm alike tomboy during my childhood- climbing and jump from the gate! (that's the reason my sis used to follow me- a very bad example actually!)
2) I held my sis hand when I was sleeping- kinda sweet, right? [It's because I'm way to scare to sleep alone in dark]
3) We used to play "ma-masak" @ our backyard- assuming the brick walls as the oven, rambutan leaves as the plates and last but not least, the mud as the food! I still remembered we made our own "congkak" too.
4) I used to make my mum "mad & crazy" beating me all time~ I even hid  myself in the toilet.
5) Grandpa used to give me some money before going to school. (RM 1 is a lot to me..)
6) I used to fight with my sis, but grandpa didn't stop us. He stood there and kept shouting @ me ~ beat your sis down!!  (He knew I won't fight back!)
7) Attempting to smoke ~ I secretly took one from grandpa's and try out (Frankly, no one notice at all)
8) Every time when we visited the shopping mall (with our parents), we always had 2 big bag full of junk food. I really fell in love with the green bean snack at that time! :)
9) Our "ang pao" (from grandparents) were always special compared to the other grandchild!
10) We have to clean our backyard (full of rambutan leaves) all the time whenever we're asked to! We couldn't say NO at all to our dad. Besides, he liked to get me to make him tea too.
11) During CNY, 5 of us (3 of us + my parents) had to pack in one room. Only 4 rooms available~ 2 rooms had been occupied by my grandparents. The other room will have to share by 3 families during CNY.
12)  When I was playing "police catching thief" with my neighbors, supposed by touching that person had already counted, guess what I did? I 'grab' that guy with both hands. It's absolutely ridiculous yet hilarious to me. LOL
13) My sis and I met a naked man after our tuition. We took shortcut (the place they were bathing but we didn't notice the man)
14) We + other cousins met another naked guy (purposely dropping his clothes) during CNY.
15)  I poured water on my cousin's bed (he was staying with us for 2 years). He even did something stupid- putting powder to cover that.
16) I remembered that we had lamb chop during one of the CNY. Normally, we used to have steamboat!
17) We have to take turn to wash the plates after dinner. (exception happen only during our birthday)
18) I stole a cassette tape (Jimmy Lin) from from of the shopping mall. Luckily, I was not been caught! (Nothing to do with my parents- I was just too curious-I guess!)
19) I used to drop by my mum's parents house after tuition- they liked to make us kopi 'O'/Milo.
20) My dad knew we're not vege. lover- we're forced to eat them. Whenever there were vege dishes, he will definitely placed that on our plates (as I mentioned, we couldn't say NO at all to him)- Because of that, I'm a tofu lover now!
21) My dojo friends/schoolmates dare not come to my house- because of my DAD!
22) Mum bought and hide those sticks (to beat us when we're a nuisance). Guess what? We'll break and threw them away if we knew where the stick was...
23) My first time consuming alcohol was on my mum's dad (my grandpa) birthday with my cousins. We really enjoyed a lot.
24) My first bicycle was a BMX.
25) My sis, mum and I (on motorbike) were being stopped by policeman due to not wearing helmet and/or 3 of us (supposed 2pac on a bike).

I can't remember much about the time I spent with the youngest one. The only 2 things I could remember:
a) She thought grandpa's medicine were sweet. Of course, she was then sent to hospital for 'cleaning-up'!
b) We went to college together with my dad to enrol myself.

Receipe but no photos

I had promised to share the recipe
a) kimchi stew recipe
b) kongnamul muchim recipe

Honestly, I have no idea about Korean dishes at all until I found this website. In fact, they are easy to prepare (I'm someone who is always looking for something easy and do  not need to crack my head) and  I could easily find the ingredient here in Perth. To those who have been tired of cooking Chinese dishes (I'm a Chinese), why not try out something different? I am a little surprise, because Korean too are using sesame oil . :)

Asides hot pepper flake, they are using hot pepper paste!

Notes:
a. I replaced pork with chicken and added some potatoes & mushrooms to the stew too.
b. It's a little spicy (hot) but definitely it's a perfect match with plain rice.
c. I'm not sure the real taste (because this was my first time.)

Please share your experience if you did try out!
Cheers..

Kimchi 김치

I was a little emotional unstable yesterday- that's why thing go haywire!
Due to all sort of reason, my blog exits! "述说我的心情, 我的故事"
(I'm not someone who is happy all time, I do have unpleasant day as well)
After pouring it, I feel much more refreshing! >,<

However, I  would like to share something nice today!
As I mentioned earlier, I made my own kimchi (is a traditional fermented Korean dish made of vegetables with varied seasonings- extracted from wiki). Find the recipe here

 * This is the red hot pepper flakes (powder)

* This is the packing (AUD13.90) from one of the Korea store

Sleepless Night

I'm @ my new house for 3 weeks already!
I'm doing the house chores and watching TV @ my HSH
It might be tiring but I really enjoy it- I made my own KIMCHI too :)

Do you how why? Still remembered the last two-years when I was in Perth, we're renting a room. At the very beginning, everything was just going perfectly fine but sooner and later, I had an argument. As a result, we're alike stranger now! It's kinda pity. That was really a bad happening to me in Perth.  I was being told before, we need to treat anyone as GOD's children but I failed.

I realized that there are lot of things which is uncontrollable. A lot of my OZ friend  (including my husband) knew what bout it and I did mention that to my mum as well. I felt so sorry /guilty because they are now the "middle man" between both of us. I REALLY DON'T LIKE THIS. Frankly, I do have a thought of not meeting them but I knew I can't. It will definitely bring a lot of  inconvenience to my husband. Besides, I do mind how people see me. In anyone's eye, I might seem like a freak ass (* I like making assumption) because I do see myself in  this way too (My sis and my mum found that too!) I might not be a friend to my friends/anyone, but certainly I won't want this to be my end result. Of course, both of us did have some unpleasant stuffs happening in this 2 years but they are not as worst as this!

I always  thought I'm an EQ person but it turned ouy the other way round :( As a conclusion, this is so called LIFE- up and down! The main reason I'm pointing this is to just advise you that THINK TWICE BEFORE ACTION or else YOU KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN,RIGHT?

Last but not least, I'm still considering whether to post this blog, anyhow I decided to go for it. I knew I would be receiving a lot of replies. DON'T WORRY MUCH. I would just want to share it with you-That's all!

'Butter' cake recipe

Ingredients:
125g cream cheese block
125g butter, softened

* 1 cup of castor sugar (I'm using white or granualated sugar)
3 eggs
2.5 cup self-raising flour
2/3 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract (optional)

Method:
1. Preheat oven 180°C fan-forced.
2. Using electric mixer, cream cheese, butter and caster sugar in a medium bowl on medium high-speed
until light and fluffy.
3. Add 1 egg at a time, beating to combine. Add half the flour and milk, stir to combine. Repeat with remaining flour and milk.
4. Spread mixture into pan.
5. Bake for an hour until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
6. Leave it on the pan with door ajar.

Note:
- Supposed it's a butter cake receipe, but I'm not a true fans of butter cake. That's the reason I made some 'adjustment' with the original recipe.
- As I don't have vanilla essence @ home, so that's optional to me! (it might taste even better with the vanilla I guess)

Yummy!

It has been a week now...
Guess what? I had made 2 cakes- a cheesecake and a butter cake!
Actually 3- I failed one (the poppy & orange cake)
Anyway, it's a very good experience for me
(with the new mixer) We'll definitely becoming good buddy.
>,<

Note:
a. This is my 3rd attempt making cheesecake- so I don't see any problem at all!
b. This is first attempt baking a butter cake- Frankly, I like exploring new thing! I made some changes AGAIN to the cake. Instead of using 250g butter, I used 125g of cream cheese block + 125g of butter. My butter cake is much more softer now (Not too bad!)
c. Poppy and orange cake is a failure- It goes to the bin!

Another Malaysian

Last week, I was "chit-chatting" with a Penang guy!

It began with....

This Mr.X called through to TBOX TS for some assistance and of course I guided him as usual.  He then asked where I was originally from? I told him my location and he exclaimed that he is a Malaysian too. Both of us were so excited about it..

I then spent a few minutes with him chatting over life in Melbourne vs Perth.
Indeed, Perth is nothing at all compared to Melbourne or Sydney
That's the reason why both of us are in Perth
Haha
